Oh where to begin, labor is a unique journey every time. Unique to the individuals, unique to that birth, unique to each birth team. It is something that can be encouraged, and steered to a degree but that cannot be fully controlled. It is also a physiological process and a dance; a dance between baby and their parent over many hours. 
 My goal in educating new parents about labor is for them to feel:
  • trusting of the physiological and/or medical and synthetic process

  • practiced in what to say and do to steer labor towards their goals while remaining flexible and open

Questions to ask on your hospital tour

Here's a list of questions to ask when touring hospitals and birth centers as you decided where to give birth. Even if planning a birth center or home birth, I recommend visiting the hospital that you would transfer to in case of emergency to feel familiar with it.
